Summer Camps for Families of Troubled Boys and Troubled Girls

Summer camps can be considered a part of or similar to wilderness programs. They are specifically the best wilderness program for teenagers who have mental disorders, behavioral problems, learning disabilities, obesity, autism or ADHD. Summer camps provide a team leader and a number of instructors. The instructor’s duty is to teach the history, culture, and socio-economic condition of the place the summer camp is held. They also monitor the teens so that there is no chance for them to get lost. The instructors have military based rules which are followed by every teenager. This makes the teen obedient and gives them self-respect and respect for others.

Teenagers who have problems with substance abuse can find relief from the pressure and influences of their daily environment. They can learn to cope with their drug and alcohol use. Teens who are depressed and have attempted to commit suicide many times can also discover a new way of living. The summer camp helps him or her realize that the world is beautiful and that life is priceless. They become motivated to live their life in a new way. The reason for their depression is abandoned and that lets them forget their bad memories. Summer camps are located in places with beautiful scenery. The cool weather and fresh air give the troubled teen complete mental and physical relief.

These programs focus on fun while students can explore how engineering and technology relate to the real world. There are two types of summer camps: one is a sleep away summer camp and the other is a day camp. In the sleep away summer camp the teen spends his or her night at camp and those camps are moved every day until the summer program ends. In the day camp the teen goes home every night. Some other camps allow both day and overnight campers. Summer camp is often the first time that teens spend an extended period of time away from home. Missing home is a frequent problem, but with a good counselor most campers adjust fairly quickly.

The summer camp provides good relief to your teenagers. However some of these summer camps do not lead the campers to a good place but instead lead them to a local spot which the teenagers are not able to fully enjoy. Sometimes they lead the campers to a dangerous place where the risk of death is high. Therefore the parents should get all the facts about the camp before sending their teen there. It would be very helpful for them in making that decision if they are able to visit the camp before sending their teen there.

Troubled Teen Programs are varied and many. They offer services to troubled teens and promise to turn their lives around.
