Recreation
Our desire at Abundant Life Academy is to address each child holistically, in a manner that speaks to the age-appropriate needs of a teenager. We require a great deal of self-reflection and self-correction from each and every student that attends ALA. Every day our students are immersed in challenging work—emotionally, academically, physically, and spiritually. Realizing the need for balance, we subscribe to a “work hard/play hard” model.
We believe in the need for a balanced approach to teenage development. As such, we are very intentional about the need for each student to experience normal, healthy social interaction through recreation. Every week, students draft proposals for weekend activities that they believe will support these goals. As long as they are able to articulate how a specific recreational activity will sustain suitable life goals, we approve those proposals and facilitate the execution of them.
An ALA student will have appropriate opportunities to experience normal, everyday teen activities—trips to movies, parks, cultural events, hikes, etc. (Note: These events are only applicable to those students who have advanced beyond Phase I.) It is the goal of Abundant Life Academy to help each teen in establishing healthy social interaction in a way that will facilitate and support the therapeutic goals of the individual.
