Typical Boarding School Student Candidate (ALA Substance Abuse Program III)

sports_students_ballThe typical student candidates for the ALA Substance Abuse Program are good kids from good Christian families (raised in the Church).  Unfortunately, these students also have a substantial “authority” issue (mainly, these teens are rebelling against parental authority) and are abusing drugs and/or alcohol, and are in need of immediate intervention.  The authority issue stems form the fact that they have an adventurous spirit and demand un-earned autonomy, but can’t make decisions that are in their best interest.  In essences, these kids are their own worst enemy.  In regard to their parents they fight, argue, and will not listen.  Additionally, these troubled boys and girls are emotionally immature, are making poor decisions, blame everyone else for their own mistakes, these teens rationalize, they are minimizers, and each of these troubled teens are deep into “fantasy-thinking”.  Meaning, these struggling girls and boys are making exceedingly bad decisions, are hanging out with the wrong crowd, sneaking out at night, abusing drugs and alcohol, and are probably sexually active and these troubled girls and boys don’t see the “problem”.  However, theses same teens blame their parents for everything, and think that they (the parents) are “retarded”, “gay”, and “stupid”.  These troubled teens are acting as if they were 8 years old, but demands to be treated as if they were 30.
